Badger Rock Middle School

THE BUILDING

We are excited to welcome you to Madison’s newest charter school – a dream in the making. A group of area educators and leading community members came together and asked what would school look like if we could design it based on the educational models that research shows to be most effective.

We dared to dream BIG. The following are some of the highlights…

BADGER ROCK

Feels like a family – set in a small school where students learn to work cooperatively across age levels developing essential communication tools.

Every child is valued for their strengths – including their family culture.

Students learn to solve real world problems together. The entire Badger Rock school system is designed to help students learn to ask and answer questions about the world and how it works and deepen their understanding of community.

The neighborhood and nearby natural areas serve as extended classroom spaces so that students better understand the value of community and the environment.

Health and wellness are at the heart of our school practices including growing and preparing fresh local foods on site – with the help of Milwaukee’s Growing Power, an area leader in urban agriculture, led by Will Allen and Madison’s own Robert Pierce.

Partnerships with area colleges and universities like Edgewood and UW-Madison bring extraordinary expertise and educational resources to routinely work with our students.

Active adult volunteer programs – Badger Rock has numerous adults and community experts to help provide additional support and enrichment opportunities.

THE BUILDING

Our dream got even better when the opportunity to partner with the Center for Resilient Cities developed. Badger Rock is part of the NEW Resilience Research Center located at 501 E. Badger Road, Madison (53713).

Brand new building with 21st century learning environments, including outdoor learning spaces.

Attached to the Resilience Neighborhood Center, serving the Moorland-Rimrock, Indian Springs, and Southdale neighborhoods, where many of Badger Rock’s students live.

Learning laboratory – the building contains some of the most current, innovative approaches to energy use and serves as a demonstration site so that students can actually see what “green” looks like on the inside.

Gathering Place – the entire campus serves as a gathering space for the neighborhood to come together to live, learn and build community together.
